National Quality Framework

On 1 January 2012 most education and care services for children became regulated by the National Quality Framework (NQF). The NQF introduces national standards and an integrated national approach to regulation and quality assessment for education and care services.

To help you understand what the new rating levels for your service mean, the assessment and rating system under the NQF is explained in the Assessment and Rating of Services brochure.

Enforcement actions

As part of its regulatory function, the department works with all approved providers of services to make them aware of requirements to help ensure quality outcomes for children.

Parents can be assured that the majority of services provide safe, high quality and well-regulated education and care for children. However, there are some instances where actions are taken against providers for breaches. See the list of enforcement actions.
