Leadership fellowships

Leadership fellowships provide opportunities for principals, or groups of principals, to undertake research in aspects of school leadership in Australia and/or overseas.

What does the Fellowship provide?

Up to four statewide recipients will each receive $10,000 and 10 days special leave.

Who can apply?
Government primary and secondary school principals.

When are applications due?

Applications for the Leadership Fellowships open in September 2015 and close in February 2016.

How do I apply?

Read the Fellowship Conditions and the Frequently Asked Questions before submitting an application.

A completed Application form, two referee reports and a signed copy of the Fellowship Conditions should be submitted electronically to Leadership@det.nsw.edu.au. Please insert Leadership Fellowship Application into the email subject field.

What are the guidelines for writing reports?

All recipients of a Leadership Fellowship are required to provide a report of their research study within 90 days of completing the study. It is usual for the report to be approximately 3,000 words in length, but must not be more than 5,000 words. Unfortunately photos cannot be included in the report.

When writing for the Department of Education it is important that the style used is appropriate and spelling and grammar accurate. As the report will be placed on the internet, abbreviations should not be used. The document will be edited by Learning, High Performance and Accountability Directorate and changes discussed with you before it is approved. Intellectual property lies with the Department. The approved report will be placed on the Department's website.

It is recommended that you ask a colleague to act as a critical friend throughout the Fellowship process. Such a person can provide you with comments about your research questions and your report. It is vital that your report is proof-read before it is submitted.

The Conditions of the Leadership Fellowships include statements related to Reports. It is the recipients' responsibility to ensure that these conditions are met.
