Teaching scholarships available

Students who begin university in 2012 or who are currently studying maths, English, special education or science are still able to apply for a NSW teaching scholarship, following an extension of the closing date for applications.

Successful 2012 Teacher Education Scholarship Program applicants will receive $5,000 for each year of full-time study, plus a one-off grant of $3,000 when they begin teaching. They may also be eligible for the Federal Government's HECS-HELP benefit.

After graduation scholarship holders will have a guaranteed permanent teaching appointment on a starting salary of $56,000.

Up to 300 scholarships are on offer, of which up to 80 will be available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to train as teachers in primary or any secondary subject area.
