TAFE NSW teacher a local hero

A TAFE NSW teacher is one of six people shortlisted for the 2012 NSW Women of the Year Awards in the People's Choice – Community Hero category.

Elsie Gordon from Dubbo was nominated for the award for her commitment to the local Aboriginal community in western and north-western NSW.

Ms Gordon has worked for 20 years with women and children experiencing domestic violence and homelessness.

Her contribution has already been recognised with a number of awards, including the Women Out West (WOW) Award for outstanding inspirational leadership.

Voting for the People's Choice award closes on Monday 14 May 2012.

The winners of the 2012 NSW Women of the Year Awards will be announced by the Premier of NSW at a reception on 24 May.
