Scholarships open to NSW public school students

Students attending NSW public schools across the state are encouraged to apply for the Public Education Foundation's prestigious scholarships for the 2014 school year.

The deadline for applications is Friday, 20 September 2013.

Twelve scholarships categories are open for students. These include:

  • the Friends of Zainab Scholarship for students who are refugees or asylum seekers;
  • the Pinpoint Scholarships for girls in Year 8;
  • the Walter and Eliza Hall Trust Opportunity Scholarships for students with a physical disability, and;
  • the Elizabeth H Blackburn Scholarship for a student interested in studying medical or health sciences.

The average value of the scholarships is $5,000.

The winner of the Mama Lena and Dino Gustin Foundation Scholarship will receive a trip to Rome to study Italian language and culture.

Public Education Foundation chief executive Verity Firth said the scholarships were "designed to be a life-changing opportunity for students in public schools".
