Queen's Birthday Honours
The Acting Secretary, Peter Riordan, has congratulated recipients of the Queen's Birthday 2016 Honours List.
Four current and former employees from the Department of Education were announced as Award recipients in the General Division and Public Service Medal areas of the Order of Australia on 13 June 2016.
"These prestigious awards recognise the recipients' outstanding service to public education in New South Wales and bring honour and respect to the Department," Mr Riordan said.
The Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the General Division was awarded to:
Meryl Jackson-Kew for service to music education, through her work as a music teacher at Figtree High School until 2015, organiser of HSC music workshops and co-ordinator of ensembles and other events.
Marianna Lacek for service to education and to the Polish community of NSW, who retired in 2015 after a career as an English as a Second Language and community languages teacher.
David Wright, a teacher at Alstonville Public School, for service to the community of Ballina.
Marnie O'Brien was awarded the Public Service Medal for outstanding public service to work health and safety in NSW. Ms O'Brien is the Department's Group Director, Work Health and Safety, and has led the delivery of a number of innovative and effective programs that have improved the wellbeing of many of our colleagues and students.
