Parent power rewarded

Nineteen dedicated public school parents across the state have been recognised for their exemplary work in partnership with their children's schools.

The annual Public School Parent of the Year awards recognise the individuals' outstanding contributions to public education, their support of the school community, and their work as partners in achieving quality educational outcomes for all students in their schools.

The parents have undertaken activities, including:

  • creating costumes for performances
  • assisting with classroom activities such as reading
  • helping in the canteen
  • organising working bees
  • raising funds through a variety of innovative means.

They've also served on selection panels, assisted in the conduct of reviews and spread the word to other parents about their schools' values and programs.

Parents and citizens' (P&C) associations play a vital role in keeping public education strong and proud, and the partnerships between schools and their communities is tremendously important.

For this reason, the department annually recognises parents, guardians and caregivers who have made a significant contribution to their local school community, and acknowledges the dedication of parents as partners in the public education of children and young people.
