Oldest school prepares for 200th anniversary

The longest continuously-serving school in Australia, Newcastle East Public School, has plans for its February 2016 bicentenary celebration well in hand.

Detailed planning is underway for a series of preparatory events, the main celebrations, the involvement of the school's illustrious alumni, and a new history of the school.

The P&C has commissioned a bronze sculpture symbolising the school's first sixteen students, and has already received a number of generous donations from local businesses and individuals towards the $80,000 cost.
