National honour for principals
Two NSW public school principals have been recognised for their dedication and commitment to education and professional development in the John Laing Awards 2016.
Jackie Malecki, principal of Rooty Hill Public School, and Geoff Hastings, principal of Denison College Bathurst High Campus, received the John Laing Award for Professional Development from the Principals Australia Institute at a presentation today in Sydney.
The award acknowledges school leaders who demonstrate outstanding leadership and support in the professional learning and development of teachers and school leaders.
Jackie Malecki has worked in education for more than 40 years and is Secretary of the NSW Primary Principals' Association (NSWPPA) and Secretary of the Australian Government Primary Principals' Association.
She has played a leading role in the professional development of beginning teachers, school executive and other school staff throughout her career. Jackie has held leadership positions with the NSW PPA, making significant contributions to principal development and support.
Geoff Hastings has primarily worked in rural schools throughout his career. He has worked to improve the professional learning of school leaders through the NSW Secondary Principals' Council.
Geoff has an interest in the role of technology in learning and has been involved in reference groups focusing on the use of technology in schools. As a member of the SPC executive he was responsible for the technology portfolio and delivered professional learning activities for other school leaders, focusing on the integration of technology in the learning process.
They were among 26 school leaders from across the country to receive the award for their substantial contributions to education through strategic leadership roles.
The John Laing Awards were established in 2004 to honour the former Tasmanian principal who worked for the Australian Principals' Association Professional Development Council. John Laing was a motivator of the innovative initiative to bring principals together for national professional learning projects and programs.
