Camden Haven students best bridge builders in NSW

Camden Haven High School students Ethan Cunningham and Jack Beukers have won a statewide bridge-building competition coinciding with Australian Engineering Week.

Ethan and Jack triumphed locally to qualify for the state championship in the Art Gallery of New South Wales on August 5.

Bridges made of a standard kit of balsa wood sticks, a cardboard tube, string and glue were marked on workmanship, creativity, visual appeal and the critical load-bearing test: the Camden Haven entry topped out at 58 kg before something broke, the highest of the 56 finalists.

The students won $200 each and $1500 for their school. The competition is supported by the Aurecon engineering company.
