A record number sits HSC exams

A record number of students – 72,391 – are enrolled in this year's Higher School Certificate.

Written exams start in more than 760 exam centres in Australia and around the world from Monday October 17 and finish on Friday November 11.

The Minister for Education, Adrian Piccoli, said while the HSC remains a vital introduction to university studies, it has evolved to encourage students to explore a wide range of subjects that suit their interests, abilities and potential career paths.

"Students no longer need to leave school to begin to develop the skills and knowledge essential to a successful and rewarding role in the workforce," Mr Piccoli said.

"Approximately 30 per cent of all HSC students are enrolled in a VET course and will gain nationally recognised employment qualifications along with their HSC."

HSC resources, including HSC advice line, exam timetable and public transport timetables, are available for students and parents.
