Gareth Ward appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Education

23 March 2017

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward today said he will be a passionate advocate for school students and teachers in his new appointment as Parliamentary Secretary for Education.

Mr Ward said he was looking forward to the challenge of the new position.

"As a strong supporter of our Gonski education reforms, I look forward to making a real difference for students and teachers in NSW," Mr Ward said.

"As a proud product of public education, I want to use this role to ensure that students in today's classrooms have every opportunity to reach their full potential.

"Having been a student with a disability, I look forward to being a strong advocate for students that are walking the same path I did and I want them to know that they can be all they want to be.

"Regional universities make a huge difference in country communities, not just in terms of access to education but also jobs and economic activity. I look forward to working closely with regional universities in particular to ensure they have a voice at the heart of Government."

Mr Ward will retain his existing responsibilities for the Illawarra and South Coast.

Education Minister Rob Stokes welcomed Mr Ward to his new role.

"Gareth is a close friend and valued colleague, and I'm excited to be working closely together to focus on improving teaching and learning, and creating great education facilities to serve the growing number of students across NSW," Mr Stokes said.

"Gareth brings great energy and dedication to our work in building an even better education system for future generations."
