Mark Scott's Update

24 November 2017

White Ribbon Day

It's a horrifying statistic that one in three women experience physical or sexual violence from someone known to them.

Violence against women is never ever acceptable and we should all speak up when we see or hear about incidents of violence or abuse.

White Ribbon Day is held each year on 25 November, observing the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Domestic violence and abuse against women in Australia has a significant impact on the home, our schools, workplaces and the wider community.

The work of White Ribbon Australia focuses on primary prevention and engaging with men to highlight the role they can play in helping prevent violence against women.

Many of our schools work with White Ribbon in Breaking the Silence and help teach young people how to recognise and challenge violent acts against women and build respectful relationships. We can all encourage respectful relationships among boys and girls from an early age.

Every one of us has a role to play in preventing violence against women. It's time to stand up, speak out and act to stop domestic violence and abuse.

Further information is available from White Ribbon Australia.
