The teach.NSW Benefits Calculator provides a useful indication of benefits and incentives available to teachers in certain public school locations in rural and remote NSW. Please note that this information is indicative only and may vary. The following headings address some frequently asked questions about the benefits.
Transfer Points are allocated to teachers for each year of service in a school. These points are accumulated during a teacher's service and used to prioritise an application for transfer.
Extended Summer Vacation
Teachers who serve in the Western zone of the State commence duty one week later than teachers in the Eastern Zone in Term one.
Hot Climate Allowance
Some rural schools are located in areas which are extremely hot during summer months. Teachers in these schools receive this allowance.
Cold Climate Allowance
Some rural schools are located in areas which are extremely cold during winter months. Teachers in these schools receive this allowance.
Socio Economic Isolation Group
Schools are grouped depending on the degree of isolation from goods & services. The greater the isolation, the lower the group number. Each group attracts varying levels of allowances depending on the personal situation of the teacher.
A motor vehicle depreciation allowance is payable to teachers in group 1-6 schools.
A dependent children allowance is payable to teachers in group 1-6 schools.
No of Additional Training & Development Days
Teachers in some rural schools are eligible for additional T & D days which allow them to travel to other centres to attend training programs.
70% & 90% Rental Subsidy
Retention Benefit Year
Teachers in specified schools receive $5000 a year benefit for each year served beyond 2 or 3 years depending on the school. This benefit is paid for a maximum of 5 years.

Other Benefits In addition to monetary allowances payable to teachers, there are other benefits that apply to teachers who serve in rural and other public schools.
'Dependent child' means a child of which a teacher is a parent and who is resident with and wholly maintained by such teacher and either is under the age of sixteen years or is a full time student under the age of eighteen years or is completing their school studies up to and including Year 12.
'Dependent partner' means a person who is resident with and substantially reliant upon a teacher for their financial support, being either the teacher's partner or a person whom the Director-General is satisfied is cohabiting otherwise than in marriage with the teacher in a permanent de facto and bona fide domestic relationship.
