Teacher Retraining Programs

If you are a qualified teacher with approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education and Communities (DEC), you may be considering a career change, without leaving the profession.

Retraining opportunities are available for teachers in the areas of special education and school counselling and mathematics.

If you wish to explore the opportunity to retrain in these areas, you need to submit an application form with references and attend an interview. Applicants selected for interview will have met the relevant curriculum or specialist teaching area benchmarks, will already be successful teachers, and will have demonstrated their capacity to undertake an intensive and challenging program of study.

Retraining is a wonderful professional experience. It will provide you with the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and teaching skills, learn with and from innovative lecturers and motivated colleagues, develop your confidence as a teacher, and broaden your career advancement opportunities.

Further enquiries can be directed to Retraining Information Line on 1300 300 634 or retraining.teachers@det.nsw.edu.au.

Information about opportunities for sponsored training in other curriculum and specialist  teaching areas will be available soon.
