Every Student, Every School: Learning and Support Scholarship - second round

 

The Every Student, Every School: Learning and Support Scholarship will provide scholarships for permanent teachers and executives in NSW public schools to undertake postgraduate studies. The financial support includes payments of $5000 for each year of study (to a maximum of 2 years) and $3000 on satisfactory completion of studies for the award of a masters degree.

Every Student, Every School: Learning and Support Scholarships have been offered to a number of successful candidates who commenced their masters degree studies in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Opportunities continue to be available for permanent teachers and executives to apply for a scholarship to complete a masters degree. Applications will continue to be considered throughout 2014.

Applications are invited from permanent teachers and executives currently working in NSW public schools who would like to enhance their understanding of and ability to meet the learning and support needs of the full range of students in their school.

Candidates may choose the university and specialist course that best suit their own circumstances. Candidates are responsible for completing enrolment in a university which offers masters level specialist courses recognised by the NSW Department of Education and Communities and are outlined in the table over the page.

Offers are for sponsorship through the Every Student, Every School: Learning and Support Scholarship and are conditional on meeting university entry requirements. Acceptance of offers cannot be deferred to a later date.

Successful candidates will be required to participate in and successfully meet requirements for the university course components of a specialist postgraduate degree.

Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

  • You must be a current permanent teacher in a NSW public school
  • University requirements to undertake specialist post graduate study at a minimum of masters level need to be met
  • Recommendation from the  principal of your current school is required

Required documentation

  • Completed application form including your one page statement
  • Proof of enrolment in a recognised masters degree for teaching students with additional learning and support needs or
  • Proof  of application to enrol in a recognised masters degree for teaching students with additional learning and support needs  

Selection Process
A selection panel from the Department's Staffing Services Directorate and Disability Programs Directorate will assess applications received from permanent teachers.

Acceptance into the program
If you are selected for a scholarship you will need to:

  • Provide proof of enrolment in a masters course for teaching students with additional learning and support needs
  • Enter into a Deed of Agreement which will include financial liability if the Deed of Agreement is not fulfilled
  • Agree to continue to work in a NSW public school for at least 1 year following completion of the masters program

Candidates can choose the university that best suit their own circumstances. Some universities offering recognised masters level courses for teaching students with additional learning and support needs are listed below. The name of the university in the table is hyperlinked to the university web site. If you intend to pursue enrolment in an alternative masters level program the Department will confirm whether this course is acceptable for teaching students with additional learning and support needs.

Applications
Applications will continue to be considered throughout 2014. 

Employment Status
Teachers will continue to be employed as a permanent teacher by the NSW Department of Education and Communities on completion of their post graduate studies.

Working Conditions
Teachers will continue to work under current employment conditions including pay scale and increments and leave entitlements.

Service Commitment
Teachers who are sponsored to successfully complete the postgraduate qualification will need to remain in a NSW public school for a minimum of one year following completion of the masters degree.

Financial Support
Sponsored teachers undertaking post graduate training as part of the Every Student, Every School Learning and Support scholarship will receive payments of $5000 for each year of study (to a maximum of 2 years) and $3000 allowance on satisfactory completion of studies. These payments will be made in a lump sum and will be included in your taxable income.

Deed of Agreement
The Deed of Agreement specifies the duration and type of service commitment and outlines the responsibilities of the successful candidates and of the NSW Department of Education and Communities. The Deed of Agreement is a legally binding document.
