Employing people with a disability
Improving the employment and participation of people with disability in our workforce is a priority and this commitment is outlined in the department's Workforce Diversity Policy and Workforce Diversity Plan 2012-2017.
The department is committed to creating a working environment that is fair and flexible, promotes personal and professional growth, and benefits from the capabilities of its diverse workforce.
The department is a member of the Australian Network on Disability, a network which provides expert advice and services on disability to employers to improve employment opportunities for people with a disability.
We are also currently participating in Ready, Willing and Able, a whole of government employment strategy for people with a disability. This includes the creation of a number of targeted job opportunities for people with a disability during 2011 and 2012.
Some Ready, Willing and Able positions will be advertised and accessed through DEC Careers, while others will be filled by partnering with Disability Employment Service providers.
